Since we had decided this trip was not for gourmets, kebabs spared us the agony of trying to find a restaurant each day that would suit the adults' desire to try something new amid children's insistence that the food be served immediately.
句式结构确实有点复杂啊…
其中最关键的句型是:spare sb. the agony of...(让某人免受...的痛苦)
句子大意是:因为我们决定本次旅行不追求美食(gourmet),所以就每天吃吃烤串(kebab),这也免去了这样的苦恼:大人们为追求新鲜四处寻觅美食,但小孩却要求需要食物迅速上桌。
